First let me say something good. AT&T's 3G service, like many others, allows you to "tether" your computer to your phone (connect your computer to the internet using your cellphone as a router). This can even be done using Bluetooth so your phone works like a wireless router. In order to use this service you have to download and install a program called AT&T Communication Manager which, though free, easy to download, and easy to use, is unfortunately fraught with technical issues causing perfectly healthy systems to freeze and even crash regularly (yes! the blue screen of death!). Visit the technical help forums and you will find that there is no really effective solution for these problems. The phone support, though generally very friendly and helpful, doesn't have an answer for this either. The bottom line is AT&T Communication Manager is a problematic program, and since at this point there is no alternative to using this program if you want to use this service, anyone who signs up is in for some serious frustration. Though I haven't canceled my subscription to this service yet because of this problem, I am seriously considering it.

Actually if you go to the sierra wireless site or the option site, depending on the card you have. You can download and install their software after uninstalling ACM and it will work much better
ReplyDeleteI spent approximately 8 hours trying to troubleshoot the ATT Communication Manager. It once worked, but something has changed. I got no help from ATT (1.5 hours on the phone). The latest software didn't resolve the problem. Still waiting on Sierra Wireless to help. The best solution for me is to remove the Communications Manager software, cancel the service, and tether my Blackberry. It seems to work fine.
